Following the announcement from The 1867 Group yesterday evening regarding the planned protest march on Saturday 16 December 2023 prior to the home match against Queens Park Rangers, the Trust’s Board has considered its’ position, which has also been done in light of the results of the Trust’s recent Member survey(*).
The Trust understands that the march organised by The 1867 Group has been planned in conjunction with the police, so the safety aspects of the march have been appropriately considered. We recognise and share frustrations with The 1867 Group and welcome the forum for the wider fan groups to express their feelings on poor decision making, being badly executed, that have caused poor on field performance, squad strength and wider perception of the Club.
Whilst the Trust’s Board wants to see change at the Club, this has to be structured change, including improved free and open fan engagement and a significant shift in the Club’s overall strategy, and structure of governance and financial stability. We do not want the Club to lurch from its current problems to another set of problems.
The Trust’s Board is open to backing protests under appropriate circumstances that align with our values – indeed, our Members are telling us they are increasingly more open to protest.
Given the above, the Trust is not actively involved in the protest march scheduled for 16 December 2023, but we understand and are supportive of any Members, Associates and Wednesday fans that want to get involved and support the march. The Trust’s Board’s view is that, on this occasion, it is up to each individual fan to decide whether or not to participate in the march, details of which are readily available online.

(*) Just under 60% of responses to the Trust’s survey were in favour of the Trust supporting any protests which are arranged by other fan groups, with 26% against supporting protests and 14% responded ‘don’t know’. In consideration of these results and associated comments, the Trust’s Board agreed the following:
