The SWFC Supporters’ Trust is looking for a Society Secretary.

What does the Secretary do?

The Secretary is a key role and attends all Board meetings, prepares the agenda, and writes the minutes. The Secretary takes part in the day to day life of the Trust Board and has access to the same information that Board Members have and contributes to discussions.

The difference is that she/he does not vote at Board meetings. This is because:

∙       She/he is the eyes and ears of Trust members and brings an ‘independent’ perspective to the Board.

∙       The Secretary has a crucial governance role to ensure that the Trust Board acts in accordance with the rules and policies of the Society and therefore is an adviser to the Board.

∙       The Secretary helps to run the elections process for Board members in the run up to the annual meeting of Trust members and therefore is neutral.

The Secretary also prepares the notices and the agenda etc for general meetings of Trust members.

The role would probably best suit someone with an administrative, governance, regulatory or legal background. Crucially, the successful candidate also needs to be a member of the Trust and be committed to the aims of the Trust.

What support will I get?

The previous Secretary will be fulfilling a role of Associate Secretary so that he will be around to support, assist and advise the Secretary when needed. The new Secretary won’t be alone in the role.
