Text for Communication to Club re Short Notice Fixture Changes
Sent to Liam Dooley, Chief Operating Officer on 23rd March 2022
Dear Liam
I’m sure you’ve seen the negative reaction from many fans and local press alike since our Easter fixtures were changed yesterday, and a number of fans have asked us to seek and explanation from the club.
From that perspective may well be helpful to the club to explain the chain of events and reasoning that has led to the change, with specific reference to whether Sky gave the Clubs the requisite notice…and if so why it makes sense for the Club to accept this.
Perhaps an understanding of the extent to which such a fixture change helps the Club financially would help to assuage the very obvious disappointment felt by those who have had travel plans decimated, or can simply no longer attend.
I’m sure we don’t have to tell you that with rising living and fuel costs booking travel early to get train discounts is the only way many fans can get together enough cash to attend games - and in this case the lack of return travel by train means an overnight stay booked at relatively short notice for anyone without a car or access to find for fuel.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts on how the Club can better connect with fans on this issue.
Kind regards
Steve Walmsley
