The Sheffield Wednesday Supporters Trust would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Sell Before We Dai group and all Reading fans on the successful sale of their football club.
The deal brings the reign of controversial previous owner Dai Yongge to an end and gives fans a fresh start. The Sell Before We Dai group commented; "In eight years, every single element of our club went backwards, today is a day for celebration and that starts by welcoming (new owner) Rob Couhig. Thank you for not giving up on us, thank you for saving our 153-year-old club from oblivion.’’
Reading FC have gone through almost a parallel existence to Wednesday with their ownership problems with points deductions, transfer embargos, relegations due to the owner, underfunding of the club and protests under his ownership. Sell Before We Dai, Reading FC fans and MP’s have been extremely helpful to the Trust and other groups in helping us with our own local difficulty. Yesterday’s news gives us all hope that our own nightmare with our current owner may one day come to an end.
What we have learned from the Reading fans experience is that none of this is easy and we need to dig in for the fight. The perseverance and dedication shown by the Sell Before We Dai campaign have been nothing short of remarkable, embodying the true spirit of football supporters everywhere. We need to show the same levels of commitment. We wish Reading FC every success as they embark on this new chapter in the club's history.
Mr Chansiri’s ownership model is firmly in the sights of the Regulator, the EFL, National and Local Media, the FSA and other stakeholders. There is nowhere for him to hide. In our opinion, he needs to sell before, like Dai Yongge he has no choice.
With the Regulator incoming and the events of yesterday, the writing is on the wall for toxic owners. It’s simply now a question of when and how they go.
