Fan Led Review Report – Please write your MP

Since the publication of the report from the fan led review of football governance some key figures from Premier League clubs have started to lobby against the report’s recommendations, including against the idea of an Independent Regulator for football and against sharing finance more fairly across the football pyramid.

They seem to forget that football is a complete system below the Premier League and if the whole of that system is not maintained then the whole of football will be damaged. The amount of wealth at the top of the game is eye-watering and is growing and this disparity in wealth needs to be addressed or more and more clubs below the PL will get into trouble.

This is why it is critical that you write to your MP about this. The more letters MP’s receive the more they will realise that this issue really matters to a lot of people and will be a vote winner.

Report and Recommendations of the Fan Led review of Football Governance

I am a supporter of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, and I am one of your constituents, my home address is below. I welcome the findings and recommendations in the fan led review led by Tracey Crouch MP.

I understand that the government has so far committed support in principle for the establishment of an Independent Regulator for football and will consider the other recommendations in the New Year. No, doubt between now and then, various vested financial interests will lobby against the fan-led review proposals, even including the Independent Regulator itself. Therefore, I would be grateful if you could confirm your support for the entirety of the report’s findings and recommendations so that ministers are strongly aware of the support that exists for the recommendations to be fully implemented.

Football is of immense emotional value to football supporters and local communities and is a major contributor to cultural life up and down the country. We need to ensure that it has a sound and sustainable future without valued clubs disappearing altogether (Bury FC and Macclesfield Town) or having to be rescued from the difficult process of business administration (Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic). Implementing the full recommendations of the fan led review report will make a massive contribution to achieving that outcome.
